Subject: Announcement about ACQNET

Dear ACQNET subscribers:

Paul Orkiszewski will be officially joining the ACQNET Board as of
January 1, 2003. Paul has been Acquisitions Coordinator at
Appalachian State University since March 2002. Prior to this he held
positions at Rice University as Music Librarian and Coordinator of
Collection Development. He also has experience with systems
administration and technical support. His combination of technical
services and systems experience, plus his geniality and savoir faire
will make him a welcome addition to our group. I am pleased also to
have a colleague who is here at Appalachian State who can "back me up"
locally.

Please note that you will see postings from "Okiszewskip_at_appstate.edu"
in the coming months. He will be joining me, Lisa German and Deborah
Duke as ACQNET moderators. Rick Anderson will continue as our ACQFlash
editor.

Let me remind readers of ACQNET of a couple of things that are very
important about participation in this list. As you all know, ACQNET is
a moderated list - and for that reason it is somewhat slower than other
lists, but you NEVER get spam. That is a trade-off we are willing to
accept. To help us keep postings flowing in a timely manner, PLEASE
respond to the list address: (ACQNET-L_at_listproc.appstate.edu) whenever
possible, NOT to the moderator's personal address. Why does this
matter? It matters because since 5 people are working to keep these
postings out there, it is faster for us to pick up the postings if we
all get them - otherwise we spend extra time forwarding them to whoever
is working on ACQNET that week. Also, you should not be addressing your
replies to us, the moderators - we are not the ones asking the questions
- your fellow ACQNET subscribers are the ones asking the questions.
Eleanor, Lisa, Deborah and soon Paul are not the ones actually asking
the questions (usually) - so please use the ACQNET-L address to respond
and if you want to also copy the subscriber who actually asked the
question, look for that in the body of the message.

Secondly - occasionally we get behind on sending postings out -
especially during national conferences and vacation periods. Please
remember that this list is a volunteer effort - your moderators are
doing this out of dedication for the profession - but not for extra
battle pay. We do this often at night and on weekends - so if your
posting does not go out as quickly as you would like - we don't mind a
little reminder or a nudge - but don't get ugly with us or else we might
get cranky! (This is a rare event but occasionally someone who is new
to the list gets rudely impatient.)

Once thing we have strived for over the years is to maintain the same
thoughtful, dignified spirit that Christian Boissonnas instilled in this
list when he founded it back in 1990. If you have not actually read the
editorial policy lately, you would do well to reacquaint yourself with
it:

Every year we post it anew, so look for the updated policy in January
2003.

Thanks to all of you who make ACQNET a vibrant, interesting list.

Eleanor Cook
