suggestions?]
Hello there---
I am a new (reference) librarian and do not work with
acquisitions other than recommending books to the
folks who actually do the acquiring. Also, I'm not a
member of this list.
I hope you'll help me anyhow! :)
I do a lot of weeding. Often, I encounter books that
do not fit our collection development policy and don't
circulate here, but may be of interest to another
library with different goals and customers. It really
hurts to toss these books when I know that someone,
somewhere could use them. However, I don't have a lot
of time to ferret out what libraries might be
interested.
So, I'm asking:
Is there some kind of freely-accessible web site that
lists titles/subjects that libraries are looking for?
This is kind of different from the library directories
I know of (which list collection STRENGTHS, not
weaknesses). I'm envisioning a database where I could
type in a title, author, or subject, and a list of
interested libraries would come up (along with contact
information, willingness to pay shipping, etc.).
There are all too may sites for BUYING used books, but
I haven't been able to find a site to help me GIVE
AWAY books to libraries that would use them most!
If you have any ideas, please e-mail me at

All the best,
Bernadette A. Lear :)
