Subject: ROCKFORD Plat books

We've just received a new copy of a local county plat book from
Rockford (http://www.rockfordmap.com). Within the contents is a notice
of a requirement to purchase a license agreement if you (or your users)
are going to make copies of the plat maps within. The license is a
separate purchase from the book & is $100 for the first county &
$75 for succeeding counties. This license allows you to make unlimited
copies of the maps within.

This is a new twist for us & I wondered how other libraries are dealing
with the situation. Obviously our licensing committee will be meeting to

review the license & the situation to decide how to proceed. It also has

implications for any libraries with genealogical collections, since it
effectively adds quite a bit of cost to purchasing any of the books. It
also adds an interesting dimension to the licensing discussions that go
on in many libraries.
