I think that such postings and information are -- and should continue to
be -- a very important part of ACQNET. If we continue to share
information
about problems with publishers, vendors, or other suppliers who interact
with the library world, we do a very important service not only for
acquisitions librarians but also for the publishing world in general.
While
none of these abuses or problems approaches the magnitude of the recent
corporate scandals we've experienced, it is, nevertheless, important to
be
able to steer clear of improper business practices and to prevent their
occurrence. It would be naive to think that such practices will ever
stop,
but if we are all alerted to them as well as to the agencies
perpetrating
them, then we can at least prevent our institutions from becoming their
victims.

We had exactly the same happen here at the Library at UW-Milwaukee.
Because they talked with several people here we ended up with the
publication only to now be sending it back and not paying for it.
Thanks
for sharing your story....we need to work together to stop these
unorthodox
business practices!
