Subject: ACQNET: Re: Converting to Sirsi
Our library switched from Geac to Sirsi in 1999 and I can second the
problems that Vicki mentioned in reference to the Acquisitions module.
We
tried it for a year and decided that it was too much, so we went back to
a
modified version of the system that we were using before Sirsi. We do
most
of our ordering through Baker & Taylor's Titlesource II and download the
MARC records after completing each order. We load them into Sirsi, as
On-Order records to allow for placing holds. We have devised a way that
we
can include the PO number, along with the branch distribution in the
on-order record, which makes it easier for us (and public service staff)
to
ID when a title was ordered and where the copies are going. We manage
our
money using Quicken. Until Sirsi does a major overhaul of the
Acquisitions
module, we don't plan on using it again.

Heather
