Subject: Acquisitions reporting to collection development

Washington State University Libraries management is reviewing our
current
organizational structure with a view toward making useful changes. In
this
process, a number of proposals have emerged that have the Acquisitions
department, which now reports to the Head of Technical Services, instead

reporting to collection development, i.e., public services. Are there
other
libraries out there that have experience with an organizational model of

this sort-- one in which a centralized acquisitions department reports
to
the person or persons who are responsible for purchasing decisions for
library materials? I would be grateful for any observations you may have

about the working of such a model.
