ACQNET: Foreign Census Materials

Subject: Census materials vendor anyone?

Greetings:

We have not had good luck acquiring foreign census materials. Over the past 
two years, we have placed 50 orders but only 9 have been fully received, 
one partially received.

Of the remaining 40 orders, one has been cancelled, but the rest remain open.

We sent 20 orders to African Imprint Library Services well over 18 months 
ago. They respond to our claims with "will be sent ASAP" but we've received 
nothing to date. We sent two orders to Clarke's Bookshop in South Africa 
who filled them in 8 months but 2 orders is not much of a test. We have 7 
orders outstanding with American Overseas Book Co. but they were just sent 
in the last 2-3 months so the jury is still out on that vendor.

We sent 21 orders directly to census offices/departments in various 
countries (Palestine, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Morocco, Madagascar, 
Kingdom of Tonga, Korea, Republic of Kirbati, Jordan, Seychelles, Spain, 
Cyprus and New Zealand). Of these we have received only 7 items (plus one 
partial receipt). We had our best luck with Spain and New Zealand.

So, does anyone have a foreign census vendor to recommend? We have a new 
crop of order requests and are wondering where to send them. Countries 
involved are Singapore, Cambodia, Italy, Fiji Islands, Malawi, Swaziland, 
Solomon Islands, Rep. of Kiribati, China, Estonia, and Vanuatu.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
