Subject: A Message for ALA Members
If you are NOT a member of the American Library Association, you may hit
the delete key now. Or not - read on if you are interested in hearing
about a special person in our field.
How often in the history of library acquisitions and collection
development will we be able to say that ONE OF OUR OWN is stepping up to
serve in a major leadership position in our profession?
Not often enough! With that in mind, and after much soul-searching, the
ACQNET Editorial Board wishes to convey the following information:
Subscribers of ACQNET, please be aware that this year’s election for ALA
President includes a candidate from our midst. Her name is Katina
Strauch
and she is currently the Head of Collection Development at the College
of
Charleston, S.C. This is the same Katina who has hosted the
_Charleston Conference: Issues in Book and Serials Acquisition_ for the
last 21 years. It was at this conference in 1989 that ACQNET-L was
conceived,
and so in a real way, ACQNET wouldn’t be here without Katina. Knowing
this,
we decided we needed to make this observation.
We will stop short of “endorsement” since frankly, we’re not in a
position to do such a thing. ACQNET has no affiliation with ALA,
although
certainly many of you are members. What we would like to do is give you
some
information and urge members of ALA to consider their choices.
Here are the candidate web sites, if you wish to check out their
platforms:
Carla Hayden: http://www.carlahayden.org
Katina Strauch: http://www.katina.info
We, the Editorial Board of ACQNET are pleased and proud that someone
within the specialty of library acquisitions has taken up this
challenge.
Subscribers who are members of ALA, please consider voting for the
candidate of your choice!
Thank you,
ACQNET Editorial Board
