Subject: Ordering deadline policies

I would like to know what policies other libraries have for ordering
deadlines. For example, I have imposed a Feb 15 deadline for order
submissions, allowing time for receipt and payment of materials in order to
not overspend the budget. I am really set on this date since our
institution has tentatively imposed a policy that all materials received
during the fiscal year must be paid for that year and invoices cannot be
held over. (The library is trying to alter this. I don't have to remind
you all what library shipments are like!) Some liaisons are opposed to the
order submission deadline and would prefer to order titles throughout the
year, over-encumbering their funds in lieu of holding requests until the
next fiscal year. Personally, I think this would be fiscally irresponsible
and I would like to gather policy information from other libraries.

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.
