I set up a corporate account on the first day they started offering them,
and have been very happy with it. Particularly because the service is so
new, the customer service is great. They sent a couple of notices about
finance charges and overdue fines, so I called and complained. (Here in an
academic setting, invoices take a WHILE to go through the accounting
process, and we need more time than your average customer!) They were very
accommodating and agreed to make us exempt from such fines, provided that we
pay every invoice in full (which we do anyway).

No major problems so far- I recommend the corporate account because Amazon
is SO fast and accurate.

Two years ago, I had the corparate account with Amazon.com
and I didn't have any problems with them. In case of
misunderstandings I contact some people from Amazon.
We order rush orders, CDs, videos and books.

We found that we did not need to set up a corporate account with
either Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. We simply entered the library's
name on the online account and we pay with our corporate Visa card (using
the name of the cardholder). Our campus has become more insistent on
using the Visa card whenever possible, so we avoid having to set up a
special corporate account, and we don't need to get an invoice at the end of
the month.

The last time I checked Amazon.com did not drop-ship. They had the
item sent to them from the publisher, they processed it, and then it is
sent to us. This slows the process down, and we wouldn't get the item in time
for our users. We prefer that the publisher sends it directly to us, that
is, drop-ship it. If we really want to rush it, we deal directly with the
publisher. There are several vendors out there that will have our
orders dropped-shipped if they do not have the item in stock. Research
Books, for one. Their web site is: orders_at_researchbooks.com

I am not sure if Amazon understands the institutional needs of most
Libraries? It would be interesting to hear more.

Hi All!

I've opted NOT to set up purchase order accounts with either
Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble.com. I find it much cleaner to just use my
institutional purchasing card. I've had problems with Amazon.com's "billing"
practices, in the past, so I use them on a very limited basis.
