Subject: Query:  Requesting quotes from vendors

Acqnet Colleagues,
The financial officer of our college has suddenly asked us to provide three
quotes for every book order that we place.  We are concerned that this new
policy will cause undue delays in getting orders out, will create ill-will
with those book jobbers who will have to provide quotes and then not get
any business, and basically give us three times as much work to do.  Have
other acquisitions departments had to cope with directives of this type and
if so,  how did you educate administration about acquisitions?  Thanks for
your collective wisdom.
