Subject: Tech Services Restructure
We recently had two SOLINET consultants come to our library and
evaluate our current processes, procedures, and organizational structure.
They recommended that we add a Coordinator of Collection Management position.
The position will be an added responsibilty for one of the current
department heads, not a separate position.
Our university has a student FTE of approximately 8,000. We process nearly
8500 books annually and have 1,513 periodical subscriptions. Our current
staffing consists of 3 department heads for serials, acquisitions, and
cataloging. The other professional is an assistant cataloger. There
are 1.5 library assistants in serials, two in Acquisitions (including an
accounting clerk), and 3 in cataloging.
I would be very interested in hearing from anyone in a library our
size, that has similar staffing and has added a Coordinator of Collection
Management position. I am particularly interested in organizational
structure and staffing patterns. This does not have to be anything
elaborate -- if your department is on a website and the staff's
job titles are listed, I can pretty much figure out what I need to
know. Thank you.
