We house such material separately at the loans desk in a plastic carrier bag
that can accommodate both text and CD. An attachment note appears on screen
upon checkout of the item to advise staff to offer the additional item. The
barcode is on the text and a ministrip barcode is placed on the CD. If the
patron does not want the CD then the system notes this on their checkout
record.

As for CD format material housed on open access we apply tattle tape to the
CD and hope the gates work!

We copy them, circulate the copy and keep the original. We do not
barcode them separately, but note in our item record there are 2
pieces. This will alert circulation to look for the cd when the
piece is discharged.

Hi Sarah , we barcode the CD-ROM separately. This identifies if
either the book is lost or the CD-ROM. We purchase security cases
for the CD's from a company called GRESSCO Limited.
Their address is: GRESSCO LTD.
                  P.O. Box 339
                  328 Moravian Valley Road
                  Waunakee, WI 53597
                  USA

Hope this information helps.

Our Library just published a paper on this topic in _Collection
Management_, which will be published in Fall 2001. However, our
policy is on the web at : http://www.lib.rush.edu/library/mixedmedia/

Hope this helps,
