Subject: Non-library software for bookkeeping
Our department has been reevaluating our procedures for ordering, receiving,
and payment of library materials.
Currently, we are using B&T's Title Source in combination with the SIRSI
acquisitions module for ordering and receiving and a combination of SIRSI
acquisitions and Quicken Deluxe for payment (cutting checks). Needless to
say, this has proven to be a very clunky setup. In our pre-SIRSI days, we
used Quicken and our payment process was pretty efficient so we're thinking
about dropping the SIRSI acquisitions module entirely and switching back to
the method that we used before.
We're pretty much in agreement that we'd like to drop SIRSI acquisitions,
but we've been investigating to find out whether or not Quicken will meet
our needs in terms of keeping track of our various funds and being able to
generate budget reports. One staff member has suggested Quickbooks and we've
taken a look at it and it sounds like it would meet our needs. For those of
you who have used Quickbooks in your library, what are your impressions of
it? Of Quicken in the library? If you're using another bookkeeping title
(like Peachtree) and you like it, I'm open to hearing about it, too.
Thanks!
Heather
