Subject: Donations for Moldovan libraries
Last year three librarians from Moldova (Adjacent of Romania) visited the
Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University at the end of their tour of
U.S. libraries. Randy Olsen, our deputy University Librarian, hosted them.
He asked me to honor their request for books. We sent 75 boxes which will
reach them some time in May. My supply of surplus books from our
gifts/booksale and discards is eclectic to say the least. Here below is a
list of topics from one of the libraries. Beyond this a variety of quality
English language books on history, literature, Humanities, technology would
be helpful. They seemed interested in books that would help students and
faculty learn the English language and culture.
My objective in sending this note is to publish an appeal on ACQNET for
selective donations. If libraries have duplicate donations or current
materials they are not able to accession or dispose of in these subjects
they can contact me howard_bybee_at_byu.edu and ship them to our location. We
have all the resources we need to ship from here to Moldova over the next
year or two. I hope that some libraries will be willing to ship small
quantities to us at their expense knowing that we will ship to Moldova. I
can handle a container equivalent if they arrive in an orderly manner. We
are shipping every couple of months. Be glad to answer questions. Pass on
the notice to any other libraries that you may know that would consider
sending good books to Moldova.
TYPES OF BOOKS NEEDED AND AREAS OF NEEDS:
Thermodynamics, Electrical Circuits, Electrical Networks, Thermal Networks,
Power Plant Equipment, Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation, Energy
Audits, Energy Handbooks. More specifically: Power system Protection,
Electrical Power Supply of enterprises, for cities, towns and villages,
Protective Relays, Electrical Power System Protection, Power Equipment, high
and low voltage, for electrical stations and substations, and Automation of
Power System.
Quality English language works on academic topics, History, Humanities,
Arts, Science, Literature, Geography, Culture. Books need to be in very
good or better condition, good enough to add to a library without repair.
I prefer email to other means of communication, for time control and
archiving correspondence.
