Subject: "Mom and Pop" direct vendors

We are finding more and more, that in order to satisfy our customer requests,
we are sending single title orders directly to the publisher. In most
instances, these publishers are only used once and are not on our SWING
contract. Many do not use a credit card and may require a prepayment.

We have sent individual title orders to over 500 different publishers in the
past year. As this can be a labor intensive process, I was wondering what
other libraries did to purchase those type of items.

Currently, we are using a "test" company to research our requests and obtain
them from several different publishers. Although we may not get a discount,
we save on the staff time to research, order and process payment from one
vendor as opposed to using multiple vendors. If anyone has a process or a
contact that they use, I would love to hear from you.
