	Fellow ACQ-NET'ers....

Earlier this month I posted a query re the use of online
transmission of orders for library purchases from selectors, etc. to
Acquisitions.

I am grateful for the 22 specific responses that I received, as
well as comments on the pro's and con's of this methodology, some of which
you all have already seen as they became a small thread on AcqNet earlier
this month.

Of the specific responses that I received, 19 came from the USA.

All but 1 were from academic libraries, and of this latter group, 7
were from four year baccalaureate institutions, 5 from ARL or similarly
sized libraries, and 9 from smaller institutions with post graduate degree
programs.

17 replies indicated that they used e-mail transmission of orders
as a supplement to other means of relaying selections to those responsible
for either placing or initiating orders, 2 used vendor programs and then
either ftp'd or otherwise transferred that info into machine readable files
that could be further used by Acquisitions staff for order placement, and 3
responses were unclear on this point.

18 responses idicated or inferred that a staff member in the
Acquisitions Dept.'s order placement division received the online
transmission initially (then, one presumes, either passing it on or
processing it directly.) 2 instituitions have designated library
bibliographers or liaison librarians (by subject area) to be recipients, 1
has the online order (requests) going to the Collection development
Librarian and 1 rotates this responsibility based upon a schedule of
service that also includes other ordering responsibilities.

No responders indicated that online transmission has replaced,
either substantially or in toto, hard copy transmission and files of
orders, with most indicating that online orders were printed out and filed
within the IPR (in-process file.)

17 replies included url's, and I would be glad to pass these on to
any interested parties.

Again, thanks very much for this useful information.

								Marty
