Electronic Serials Librarian
Summary Description
Georgia State University has a large collection of electronic serials. Pullen Library seeks a person with electronic serials experience for a faculty rank position (non-tenure track) to co-ordinate the acquisition and cataloging of electronic serial publications. The person in this position will work with librarians and staff throughout the library to ensure efficient handling of electronic resources. The position reports to the Head of the Acquisitions and will have administrative responsibility for the Acquisitions Department in the absence of the department head.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to overseeing all aspects of electronic serials acquisitions and processing, including license review and cataloging; coordinating the production of Voyager reports for the Acquisitions and Cataloging Departments; developing new procedures; serving as assistant head of the Acquisitions Department; and participation in university and professional activities including research and publication.
Qualifications
This position requires an ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science plus one year of professional experience with electronic resources preferably in the areas of licensing, purchasing, cataloging, and/or other processing. Computer skills. Preferred: Knowledge of AACR2, the Marc formats for bibliographic and holdings data, LCSH, and LC Classification schedules. Experience working in an integrated automated environment, preferably Voyager. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Supervisory experience. Prior experience writing reports with a relational database, preferably Access. Demonstrated interest in professional and research activities is important.

Georgia State University is an urban institution located in downtown Atlanta with an enrollment of approximately 24,000 commuting students. The William Russell Pullen Library houses over 1,200,000 volumes and subscribes to more than 7,000 periodicals and is a 70% selective depository for U.S. government publications. Its growing Media Center has holdings of approximately 11,000 audio, video, and multimedia materials. The carefully selected collections are designed to serve the varied research and instructional needs of the university community. Library services are supported by an Endeavor Voyager online catalog system called GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries) with integrated functions for acquisitions, circulation, and serials control, as well as a library?wide Novell LAN. Automated reference services are supported by CD?ROM subscriptions, online reference services from a variety of vendors, and access to the World Wide Web. The University System of Georgia has linked together institutions into a statewide system known as GALILEO; providing equal access to electronic resources and other materials for libraries throughout the state. The library is a member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries, the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), and the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education, an active consortium of fourteen academic and research libraries serving nineteen institutions.

Salary and Rank
$32,000 - $38,000 for twelve months commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment at faculty rank, on a contract renewal basis.
