JOB DESCRIPTION
COORDINATOR OF REFERENCE SERVICES, EVENING
Sunday, 2:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M.
Monday-Thursday, 4:00 P.M.-12:00 Midnight
Schedule varies during holidays and summer
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Head Librarian, is responsible for the
various library information services during evening and Sunday hours of
operation. Serves as Horizon computer operations backup during evenings
and Sundays.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Acts as general supervisor of the Library in the evening and on
Sunday, assigning tasks, scheduling backup desk assignments as
necessary, and enforcing internal Library and departmental policies
for evening and Sunday personnel.
2. Provides traditional and electronic reference services to assist
patrons in the optimum utilization of library resources, including
reference desk service, electronic database searching, library group
and individual orientation, bibliographic instruction, reference
collection development, and federal documents collection.
3. Maintains departmental statistics in collaboration with the
Coordinator of Reference Services, Day, and prepares reports as requested
by the Head Librarian.
4. Composes, designs, and edits bibliographies and miscellaneous library
research guides.
5. Recommends reference services, policies, and procedures in conjunction
with the Coordinator of Reference Services, Day, to the Head Librarian.
6. Establishes and maintains the Reference Vertical File.
7. Selects, weeds, and conducts inventory of reference materials in
one or more subject areas as assigned by the Head Librarian.
8. Communicates routinely with the Head Librarian on issues related to
evening reference.
9. Analyzes the Federal Government Documents collection and makes
recommendations to the Assistant Coordinator of Technical Services.
10. Serves as backup for Horizon computer operations.
11. Serves as liaison to patrons for the promotion of federal government
documents.
12. Performs other duties and projects as assigned by the Head Librarian.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Library/Information Science from an American Library
Association (ALA) accredited institution.Computer experience, including
software and online applications.Five (5) years of library experience in an
academic library.Supervisory and communication skills.Ability to work
effectively with diverse public and staff.Strong interest in working in a
fast-changing environment of new technologies and expanding
services.Creative, takes initiative, and willing to work in a team
environment.Strong commitment to services for undergraduates, graduates,
faculty, staff, and other library patrons.
