Technical Services Librarian. The University of Montevallo seeks a
flexible, change-oriented librarian with broad interests and special
expertise in library technical services. UM is a member of the Council of
Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), a national alliance of leading
liberal arts colleges, offering baccalaureate and master's degree programs
with an emphasis on high quality education and innovative teaching. Adjacent
to Birmingham, in one of the nation's fastest growing counties, Montevallo

The successful candidate will provide leadership on both an individual and
team basis in the daily activities of the Technical Services Team and will
coordinate and implement planning efforts and project development. The
Technical Services Librarian directs acquisitions, cataloging, processing,
and serials control, and monitors and analyzes vendor performance with
outsourced services. The Technical Services Team reports to the Technical
Services Librarian and consists of 2.5 FTE support staff, as well as student
assistants. The Technical Services Librarian works collaboratively with the
Director and the other members of the library faculty to develop innovative
procedures and tools for the delivery of library services. The Technical
Services Librarian will be expected to participate in reference and
instruction services.
We require an ALA-accredited MLS and demonstrated knowledge of current
cataloging standards and practices. Desirable qualifications include
technical services experience in an academic library, experience supervising
support and/or student staff, experience cataloging print and non-print
materials, and experience working with an integrated library system,
preferably Horizon. Additional characteristics sought include strong
communication and organizational skills, the aptitude for complex,
analytical work, flexibility, and the ability to establish priorities for a
team to ensure that team and library goals are met.
This is a tenure track, 12-month appointment at the rank of Assistant
Professor, and it offers substantial opportunity for professional growth and
development. Salary range is mid-thirties. Benefits include state
