Not to be pointing fingers, but a lot of the "controversy" hinges on
your opinion of things getting out of hand. Could you point to what
you actually mean by that? Given the broad scope of what a next
generation catalog is about, I'm not sure if it is the esoteric
digressions (which often are interesting in themselves) or the
strongness of opinions (which are meek and mild compared to the rest
of the Internet) or the importance of the issues (which has a larger
scope than only catalogs, I suppose, and verging on library politics)
that is the problem?

If it is, however, me not putting in the appropriate smiley face
somewhere, then I don't think we should let it derail an otherwise -
for me, I can only speak for myself - interesting discussion. I mean,
people can just delete the messages if they think it all boring,
right?
