Senior Applications Developer, University Libraries, Kent State University
Kent State University Libraries seeks an innovative developer for its Systems Department. The Senior Applications Developer, a full-time programmer, will create and maintain code to support a wide variety of projects that include public-facing applications and a large number of internal workflow applications.
The Systems Department employs eight technical staff and several student assistants. It manages the Innovative Interfaces ILS, ILLiad, and ERes systems for nine campuses; manages 600 PCs in multiple locations; supports three electronic classrooms; provides support for digital initiatives; provides support for the Libraries' public web presence; and develops and maintains a staff intranet that provides an extensive array of custom library applications developed in-house by the three full-time programmers on staff.
This is a 12-month, full-time administrative staff position with excellent benefits. Salary base is $ 52,967 -- $67,461.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Systems, the Senior Applications Developer will:
1. Configure and maintain Unix servers to support our web sites, workflow applications, and storage solutions.
2. Create and maintain code to support UL projects, for example,
--Account Management System
--Staff Directory system
--Special Collections metadata collection tool and associated public interfaces
3. Create and maintain code to support library automation by interfacing with KentLINK ILS System, for example,
--Patron Database and associated backup scripts
--New Materials and Actives Serials systems
--KentLINK 856 URL checker
--Budget Report System
--Building Monitor System
--Selection Manager
--KentLINK Item Documentation system
4. Handle various long-term projects as assigned, for example,
--Work with Special Collections to digitize the Daily Kent Stater and provide for public access
--Work with Special Collections to create a dark digital storage system for use across campus
--Continue process of moving content from old to new web sites
--Develop programming for migration to III/Sierra and for long-term utilization of Sierra data
Preferred Skills:
1.Experience in Unix server administration.
2.Experience programming web applications in PHP, Javascript, AJAX, and/or similar languages.
3.Experience with SQL, scripting languages, AD and LDAP.
4.Experience with web content management systems.
