The Library at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville seeks applicants for Metadata Librarian. Under the direction of the Discovery Enhancement Librarian, the position produces and manages MARC and non-MARC metadata for university and library projects and materials, including digitization projects, special format material and electronic resources. This position also selects appropriate metadata schema and standards, performs database maintenance activities, documents procedures and processes, and assists with training of staff in descriptive metadata production. It requires knowledge of multiple metadata standards, such as MARC21, RDA, and Dublin Core. The Metadata Librarian works closely with all sections of the library, particularly the Virtual Services Librarian and the Digital Projects and Preservation section, to ensure best practices in the production and control of metadata for the library's digital projects and collections.

Requires an ALA-accredited Master's of Library Science degree or equivalent, plus at least 2 years of experience creating and editing metadata using automated data management systems. Additional requirements: working knowledge of MARC 21 and LCSH; familiarity with non-MARC metadata schemas (e.g. Dublin Core); and knowledge of metadata content standards for library materials (e.g. AACR2, RDA, etc.).

Preferred:
A broad understanding of digital metadata management, the creation of metadata dictionaries, and authority control using controlled vocabularies or taxonomies; demonstrated ability to work with automated data management systems; a familiarity with emerging cataloging theories and concepts; proficiency with metadata creation and global editing tools; ability to learn new technologies and metadata standards for multiple formats of materials; ability to multitask, prioritize, and work both independently and as part of a team; experience training staff; and excellent oral and written communication skills.
