The ALCTS Heads of Cataloging Interest Group invites your proposal to participate in a discussion of developing service-oriented models for cataloging and metadata, to take place at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Dallas on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 8:00AM.
Presentations focusing on broad ideas or trends for the future of cataloging, metadata, and technical services, as well as illustrative case studies/examples of applying service-oriented approaches to cataloging are welcome. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
* Applying cataloger expertise to institutional operations outside of technical services (e.g., providing metadata outreach for other campus/partner communities)
* Role of catalogers in developing catalog interfaces and functionality (e.g., faceted catalog browsers)
* Managing re-organization/integration of non-MARC metadata into existing staff structures
* Developing assessment programs for cataloging and metadata
* Identifying and supporting emerging professional development needs for catalogers
Presentations should be 20-30 minutes in length. To submit a proposal for presentation, please email a brief description of your proposed topic to the current chair of the Heads of Cataloging Interest Group, Christopher Cronin (croninc_at_uchicago.edu<mailto:croninc_at_uchicago.edu>), by Monday, October 24, 2011.
