The University of Wisconsin Colleges invites applications for the position of Director of Library Support Services (LSS), an 83% limited appointment position. The Director of Library Support Services is responsible for the management of the UW Colleges centralized technical support operations and reports to the UW Colleges Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.  The LSS Director develops, promotes, maintains and evaluates library technical services for UW Colleges campus libraries. The Director supports the UW Colleges Libraries' mission through collaboration with the Library Council (all UW Colleges Libraries staff) and the Madison-based administrative offices. The position oversees the daily functions of Library Support Services, as well as offers the opportunity for long range planning and goal setting.  We are seeking an innovative, tech savvy consensus builder with strong communication skills.

The UW Colleges (for details see www.uwc.edu<http://www.uwc.edu>) is comprised of 13 two-year campuses and the UW Colleges Online Program, with one central administration and is a part of the University of Wisconsin System. Supporting all 13 UW Colleges campuses, this position is housed on the UW-Fond du Lac campus, which is located in eastern Wisconsin about an hour north of the Milwaukee metropolitan area with convenient access to Madison, Chicago and Green Bay. The UW-Fond du Lac campus is located on 183 acres of prime natural and maintained land in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a city of about 42,000 people (www.fdl.com<http://www.fdl.com>). Abundant recreational opportunities are available, typical of the Great Lakes region.

Qualifications:

Required:

 *   ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science
 *   A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience
 *   Management and leadership experience
 *   Effective communication skills

Preferred:

 *   Experience in a consortial setting
 *   Experience in higher education
 *   Experience negotiating with vendors
 *   Ability to manage budgets
 *   Demonstrated ability to build and maintain good relationships at a distance
 *   Demonstrated ability to complete projects
 *   Knowledge of library technical services including cataloging, acquisitions and systems
 *   Knowledge of current library technology trends
 *   Ability to foster creativity in others
 *   Experience in a shared governance environment

Typical duties include:

 *   Direct and manage Library Support Services including staffing, budgeting, and setting processes/workflows.
 *   Promote, develop and support innovative library services to enhance the UW Colleges Libraries.
 *   Gather and compile data to provide reports.
 *   Manage the shared library resources of the UW Colleges. Identify potential new resources and serve as the primary contact with vendors when selecting and negotiating the cost of new and current resources. Final approval for changes to shared resources rests with the UW Colleges Library Council.
 *   Assist the UW Colleges Libraries in managing their local acquisitions budgets and oversee allocation and disbursement of centralized funds. Establish and maintain ledgers for LSS and UW Colleges-wide library acquisitions.
 *   Support UW Colleges libraries acquisitions including serials and coordinate group and standing order purchases.
 *   Serve as primary resource contact for WiLS and UW System Administration's Library Consultant.
 *   Create opportunities for training UW Colleges Libraries staff by offering workshops on software and initiatives. Keep abreast of trends in library services and disseminate that information.
 *   Serve as backup to the Automation Librarian.
 *   Participate in UW Colleges Office of Academic Affairs meetings, UW Colleges Library Council, UW Colleges governance responsibilities, and related committees.

Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate should demonstrate the following: evidence of strong organizational and communication skills; knowledge of current issues in academic library services; an understanding of and commitment to a technology-rich information environment; a commitment to collegiality and shared governance; and an ability to embrace change and help the Library Council to revision the role of library services in the UW Colleges.
