Web Services and Emerging Technologies Librarian
Librarian II or III
The University of Massachusetts seeks candidates for the position of
Web Services and Emerging Technologies Librarian (Librarian II or III). As
the largest public academic research library in Massachusetts, we are a key
partner in teaching, learning, and research at UMass Amherst and in the
Commonwealth. By combining the latest information technology with excellent
public service, the staff builds and maintains a rich information
environment, facilitates access to it, and creates a place that functions as
a hub of campus and community scholarly activity. Under the direction of
the Head of the Library Systems and Web Management Department, this position
is instrumental in developing, implementing and assessing Web and Web 2.0
technologies in support of all departments in the library. It functions as
part of a collaborative, user oriented team that supports library
information systems and infrastructure. It also contributes to the overall
Library Systems technology support effort.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library
Association accredited library and information studies program.
2. Minimum two years of professional library experience in a comparable
academic, research or specialized library including experience with large
scale web site creation, development and management.
3. An ability to handle multiple priorities in a library embracing
advanced information technologies.
4. Demonstrated proficiency with emerging technologies, social
networking tools and mobile applications.
5. Demonstrated proficiency with XML, XHTML, and XSLT.
6. Demonstrated proficiency and understanding of best practices in web
and information architecture.
7. Demonstrated understanding of multiple browsers and mobile
applications including their capabilities and their limitations.
8. Strong knowledge of HTML5 and Javascript.
9. Experience testing interfaces for usability and effectiveness.
10. Technical training or teaching experience.
11. Strong diagnostic skills and considerable comfort with both the Windows
and Linux environment.
12. Advanced computer skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Windows 7
operating system and Office 2010 applications.
13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to
work in a collaborative environment
