Friends,
we have gotten very few comments on the W3C LLD report [1], yet there
are very clearly things that merit discussion in that report. I would
really hate for the report to be finalized "unexamined" by a wider
audience. The "nut" of the report is not lengthy -- the key sections
are:
- Benefits of library linked data
- Implementation challenges
- Recommendations
Just to get some juices flowing, here are some quotes and section
headings that you might find stimulating:
Benefits:
- "Once retrieved, the recombinational nature of RDF will allow
information seekers to extract the parts of the data they need and
understand, re-mix as required, or even to add their own annotations
as contributions to the global graph. These capabilities meet
expectations for an interactive user experience, such as is found in
social networking applications."
- "Library system vendors will benefit from the adoption of mainstream
technology as it will give them an opportunity to broaden their user
base."
Issues
- "Designed for stability, the library ecosystem resists change"
- "Libraries do not adapt well to technological change"
- "Libraries are understaffed in the technology area"
Recommendations
- "Create an ethos of innovation"
- "Create URIs for the items in library datasets:
- "Apply library experience in curation and long-term preservation to
Linked Data datasets"
