The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries seeks an innovative,
energetic, and engaged individual for the position of Alliance Digital
Repository (ADR) Services Director.
The ADR Services Director oversees the administration, development and
implementation of consortial digital repository services at the
Alliance. This position plays a key role in the continuing development
and operation of a shared Fedora Commons/Islandora installation which
provides the foundation for Alliance members' and affiliates'
institutional digital repository initiatives. This position directs
budget and resource allocations, including oversight of hardware and
infrastructure procurement, software development, recruitment and
management of personnel, contractor and vendor relations, collaborative
communications, and member support services. This position coordinates
the investigation, adoption, and adherence to established and emerging
digital repository, digital preservation, and data curation standards,
best practices, and trends, including content and metadata development,
distributed data storage and disaster recovery, and rights, usage, and
general policy compliance by participating institutions.
The Director works closely with the Alliance Executive Director on
visioning, strategic and operational planning, marketing, and public
relations efforts around consortial repository services and the ADR
Basic software platform. The Director reports out repository services
activities regularly to the Alliance Board of Directors and also to an
oversight committee of participating institutions' libraries'
leadership. The ADR Services Director also provides a leadership role to
and works closely with Alliance members and community stakeholders,
including a range of administrative, electronic resources, technical,
and systems librarians, on collaborative identification of and response
to functional requirements. This position works formally and informally
with partners on joint projects and initiatives, as well as with vendors
at both the contract negotiation and technical installation levels.
This position currently manages 2.5 FTE of full- and part-time technical
and member support staff, including the ADR Technical Lead and the ADR
Member Services Support Coordinator positions.
Required qualifications:
* An ALA-accredited MLS or the equivalent combination of
education and experience.
* Minimum of 3 years of increasingly responsible, substantive
positions developing, planning, and successfully implementing
information technology services. Supervisory experience is a plus.
* Strategic understanding of the role of digital repositories in
academic, non-academic, and /or consortial environments and the
challenges of acquiring, preparing, and displaying content.
* Demonstrated understanding of digital repository reference
models, best practices, and standards, including familiarity with
several major descriptive and non-descriptive metadata. standards:
Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MIX, MARC, MODS, PBCore, PREMIS, XACML, FOXML, !
RDF, RSS, and/or others.
* Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication
skills.
Desired qualifications:
* Experience with developing digital repository systems housing
a variety of data types.
* Technical familiarity with the Fedora Commons repository
platform and/or Islandora and Drupal.
* Experience managing technology-intensive projects in a
collaborative work environment.
* Experience working with software and hardware vendors and/or
within open source software communities.
* Experience developing and facilitating instructional workshops
and webinars.
* Outreach, public relations, marketing, or sales experience,
especially within an academic, public library, or publishing
environment.
* Experience working with library and academic faculty in a
university environment.
* Familiarity with Web-based, internal and external task and
issue tracking software (Redmine, Bugzilla, dotProject, etc.).
* Awareness of current issues in scholarly communications (e.g.
Open Access, licensing, etc.).
* Familiarity with one or more of the following: XML, UNIX,
database design and development, scripting languages such as PHP,
Web-authoring tools, and Web page development.

ADR Services is a preservation-oriented, consortial digital repository
initiative which aims to facilitate collective knowledge-building of
digital curation strategies among Alliance members and the broader
community. The ADR Basic software platform, a Fedora Commons - Islandora
developed and maintained by ADR Services, provides a base of digital
content discovery, access, and, storage, and long-term management
functionality and leverages a combination of Open Source Software
packages supported, in part, by a third-party vendor. ADR Basic is a
centrally hosted service leveraging servers, data stores, and

positioned to interface with Cloud storage providers by mid- to late
