I do think it's it's important information, for our folks who buy and receive materials and for our folks who need to identify materials with bibliographic representations. 

Ed Jones had written:

"For modern publications, I have never seen a convincing argument for spending time and effort on the place of publication except for obscure publishers ... "

Im not sure what modern means in this context. For videos, DVDs, printed music, some reports, and likely other materials, having a place of publications for these modern materials is a great help.
