A short reply. Jim writes:
"Well, I figured that I would hurt everybody's feelings, "
which isn't what happened (as Janet, too, pointed out). My feelings are fine; it's the illogic that troubles me. Don't trivialize a disagreement.
> What is my evidence that catalogers don't have the imagination? They *STILL* insist that people primarily want . . .
that isn't evidence, since there's no data out there proving your assertion. Take a browse into the RDA or Autocat discussions on the matter and it would appear the assertion is baseless.
> But I maintain that nothing, absolutely nothing, that is suggested now can be considered "impracticable" until after exhaustive tests are made.
Which I think perhaps shouldn't be extended to assertions about widely diverse professionals (systems, catalogers, bakers, whomever). I think at least a casual assessment of the discussions going on should be made, so that categorical assertions to exclude thousands of folks from a discussion could be avoided.
