Position Description
The Boston College Libraries seek a talented and creative Web Developer to design and implement dynamic scholarly websites and web applications to highlight distinctive digital collections and to deliver context-aware library services to students and faculty. Using a variety of tools, technologies, and data sources and with input from faculty, students, and staff, the Web Developer will be involved in a variety of projects centered around the effective web delivery of content and services to library users. This position works closely with staff from the Libraries' Systems Department and BC's Information Technology Services department.
This position reports to the Library Systems and Applications Manager in the Library Systems Department.
Requirements
* 3+ years of relevant experience in a library
* Demonstrated ability to develop dynamic, interactive websites that integrate data from a variety of sources
* Broad background in web technologies (e.g, Apache, DHTML, CSS, Javascript/DOM)
* Understanding of one or more structured programming languages (PHP, Perl, Ruby, Java, etc)
* Ability to read and understand XML schemas and create effective XSL stylesheets
* General understanding of Web Services such as SOAP, REST and other XML-based APIs
* Experience with library discovery and delivery systems and tools (e.g., Primo, SFX, DigiTool, Aleph)
* Experience working with content-management systems (e.g., Drupal, Day CQ)
* Experience developing web applications tailored to delivery on mobile devices
* Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with a wide variety of groups and individuals, both internal and external
* Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
* Java programming experience preferred
* M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program preferred
