Given the naïve Google-expecting approach we often bring to searching, post-search navigation options have become essential.

"Post-search navigation" I like it. That's actually what we need.
All your suggestions sound great. As an additional one that I have tried to play with but failed completely, is to show the subject subdivisions of an authorized subject term in a word cloud instead of the textual strings.
Also, Ian Fairclough asked if anybody has linked to materials outside the web. I've done a lot with that in the display of my records, e.g.
http://www.galileo.aur.it/cgi-bin/koha/opac-detail.pl?bib=25874
with links into OCLC for citations, sharing capabilities, Google scans, and a nice link into Bernhard Eversberg's LCSH browser (which seems to be not working fully at the moment, I just noticed).
Additionally, I have instituted an "Extend Search" which attempts to do what you mention, but you need a "tutorial" on it. (It's Two-Minutes or Less!)

I have been experimenting with changing the functionality of implementing the Extend Search from a javascript into a plugin to make it work for any webpage at all, but I've had technical problsms creating it. Still, I think doing that would make a very powerful tool.
