Bringing this back around to the subject (I just now realize how much of a misnomer "subject" is in email practice; but I digress..) of this thread, I'm in full agreement with Bernhard's statements above.
However, *will* everyone be ecstatic to see an approach built on a new model? *Especially* if it involves throwing some things overboard, like MODS does (and I'm only using MODS to tie back in to our original topic)? It seems to me that the most common objection I see to "new models" is when they involve a loss of information (usually "less precision") compared to MARC, as though that's some sort of terrible thing to be avoided at all costs.
There are certainly complex issues and use cases involved, and a new approach need not be simple in the sense of being crude. But whether migration or separation, we *are* going to have to throw some (and perhaps many) things overboard. The sooner some of us can let go of them, the more quickly we can sail to brighter shores.
