Did anyone mention the usefulness of basic skills in spreadsheets and SQL? Today's catalog manager is often required to manage and massage the catalog data in bulk. In my library the cataloging managers and collection management librarians have been lucky enough to draw on the skills of an experienced librarian who built SQL skills on top of a strong grasp of user services and cataloging. Sadly, we are losing him soon and someone else with that complement of skills would really look good.
