The Open Library is experimenting in the background with separating  
the LCSH facets and treating them each as subjects. I have seen some  
crude pages where for each facet (e.g. France or History) there is a  
list of related facets that can be presented in "most used" order. So  
for France, the 5 most common facets might be (making this up off the  
top of my head):

History
Revolution
Art
Literature
Cookery

And for History, the top nodes might be:

United States
Civil War
Europe
Germany
France

It gives correlations without keeping the facets together. Hopefully,  
this will come live and we can see how well it works for finding.
