I also think one must be careful in what one attributes to NextGen  
rather than simply new functionality. My local public library, a III  
user, had an unbelievable jump in holds placed when it became possible  
to place those holds online. No NextGen catalog was involved.  
Circulation often increases dramatically in public libraries when  
libraries move to an efficient self-check system. It could be that  
users respond mainly to added functionality rather than a new  
discovery model.
