It was bemoaned on this list when LC withdrew the lcsh.info service.
Now, it is back, and improved:
http://id.loc.gov
as Sally McCallum made known yesterday on DC-GENERAL:
https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A2=ind0905&L=DC-GENERAL&T=0&F=&S=&P=937
We have at once added a link into this for every LCSH term in our
browser database:
http://www.biblio.tu-bs.de/db/lcsh/
The link says "LCSH Info" and brings up
id.loc.gov/authorities/<shnumber>#concept
(The old lcsh.info/<shnumber> works just as well, BTW. As of yet.)
with the sh number of the term - if our database has that number.
The advantage of the browser is that you can browse alphabetically under
terms, phrases, etc., and also the cross references.
But more! The LCSH dataset itself has been made available for free
downloading, in two different formats. You'll easily find it on the
site. Names are not included, so the file totals 342.684 RDF records.
We are looking into importing this to improve our browser database
(which has 6.3 million records, including names, but is not current).
