I wouldn't have believed it until I worked at a reference desk, but
I've seen several people confuse the pagination notes or even that
default 24cm width (does any cataloger put in the actual width?) with
the call number. Then when they can't find their book under "311p,"
they'll come and ask for help.
As for location, this is more of a local issue having nothing to do
with MARC or ISBD or AARC2, but many times I've had people come to ask
me "Where is the 'Main Library'?" In actuality we have "New Fiction,"
"New Non-Fiction," "Award-winning Books," "Beyond the Bestsellers,"
"Fiction," "Mystery," "Fantasy & Science Fiction," and "Biography."
And that's just the Adult books. Our OPAC displays some of those,
hints at a couple, and completely obscures the rest. At Borders,
"O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science" would be a clickable link
to a floor map.
