On another side of the issue, members of the electronic discussion list Pub-Forum [1], have been criticizing the settlement from the perspective of small and independent publishers and authors (expressing great concern over Google's violation of copyright law and what it could mean for the future of copyright; over the definition of out-of-print and how Google could twist it to mean anything, thus stripping them of control of their works, etc.), with a significant number of messages in November and December.
