The ALCTS Catalog Form & Function Interest Group is looking for
presenters for its session at ALA Midwinter, to be held from 10:30 to
12:00 on Saturday, 24 January. This year, we are looking at the
relationship between the catalog and external tools that are either fed
off of the catalog, or feed data back to the catalog. This would
include e-resource identification tools ("A-Z" e-journal lists),
audio-visual listings, archival finding aids, image databases, and
possibly even authority files, union catalogs, & bibliographic
utilities. Suggestions for approaches to the presentations might include:
* *Workflow: * data creation, harvesting, transformation
* *Synchronization: * post-creation record maintenance &
synchronization between data stores
* *Economics:* can we afford to duplicate metadata in more than one
place?
* *Architecture:* how close are we to using Web services for
authority or bibliographic control? where should the canonical
(mother) record reside? how frequently do we need to pass data
between stores?
The level of discussion will be determined by the level of
interest/involvement of you, the presenter! So please indicate your
interest in presenting to Charley Pennell, Chair, CFFIG
(cpennell_at_ncsu.edu) by 2 December.
