Finding the "Pod People":
A RUSA MARS Hot Topics Annual Conference Event
Saturday, June 28th, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Disneyland Hotel in room Magic Kingdom 4, 1150 Magic Way, Anaheim
Podcasting and video casting now offer libraries an easy and creative
way to reach patrons and connect them to hidden treasures in collections
and helpful library services. The RUSA MARS Hot Topics Discussion
Group will be presenting a panel entitled, "Finding the Pod People:
Looking at services and collections through podcasting" on June 28th,
Saturday, at 10:30 a.m. at the Disneyland Hotel in the Magic Kingdom 4
room, 1150 Magic Way.
The panel presenters include, among others, Diane Mizrachi, Information
Literacy Instruction Coordinator at UCLA's College Library, who will
share her experience creating short videos know as LITE Bites (Library
Instruction To Everyone, Bite Sized) via her own video cast that will
air during this event. Drew Smith, Information Literacy Librarian at
the University of South Florida, will discuss the Library Guy/Gal series
of podcasts formatted like the popular Grammar Girl series. Drew will
also discuss what equipment you need for podcasting and how to actually
create a podcast for your library. Andy Huse, Special Collections
Librarian at the University of South Florida, will discuss how he uses
video casts and podcasts to link patrons to oral histories and hard to
find, but important, collections.
This panel of experts will demonstrate how they have used this
technology to reach "digital natives" in their world. Has your library
taken the podcasting plunge? Find out from colleagues that you don't
need to be an iPod guru or a movie director to use this technology to
connect your patrons with the best of your library.
