Megan,

The State University Libraries of Florida that contribute records to
the PALMM Project (Publication of Archival Library & Museum Materials http://palmm.fcla.edu/)
have their records in our implementation of Endeca, which we call
"Mango."

Here is a link that will take you to a sampling of PALMM records in
our union catalog:

http://catalog.fcla.edu/ux.jsp?Ntt=PALMM&N=4283276459&Ne=206474&advRef=1&Ntk=Keyword&Nty=1

As you will see, we are indexing the metadata for digital materials
with Endeca, and they have links to images that are stored locally at
FCLA. The source of the metadata is MARC for these records. Scroll
down so that you will see the Subject: Genre facet, and that will give
you an idea of the scope of digital material that we are currently
including.

In the near future, participating libraries will be able to contribute
different kinds of metadata (Dublin Core, MODS) for inclusion in Mango
that will also have links to digital collections that are stored
locally at their own institution. An example of this will be the
Wolfsonian-Florida International University Dutch Collection:

http://image11.fcla.edu/cgi/i/image/image-idx?q1=wolf;type=boolean;rgn1=wolf_all;view=thumbnail;g=all;med=1;c=wolf

One of the issues that we will have to consider regarding the
inclusion of different kinds of metadata is how the different facets
of different data sources will co-mingle in the facet menu in Mango,
which is dependent on how the metadata fields are mapped in the
different pipelines that feed into Endeca. Another issue that we have
not fully considered yet is the possibility of retrieving a thumbnail
image for display similar to the way we display book cover images from
Google when available.
