Oh, c'mon Tim, you know very well that the library world ain't going
to promote anything that you can't wrap a strict process around or to
have something a committee can't control. This is why we've got the
current state of MARC (and the culture within) and the Z39.50
technologies still as champions of digital library value.
The funny thing is, of course, that LibraryThing pretty much is what
you describe already, just add a few fields and a Wiki, extend the
MARC with some LT specific control data (like real versioning) and
you're done. Save us! Please!
