Position Summary:

The Oregon State University Libraries are recruiting for a Metadata and
Digital Services Librarian at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a
12-month, tenure track, full-time (1.00 FTE) position.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the Metadata & Digital
Services Librarian provides leadership and guidance for Oregon State
University Libraries on metadata development and application. The
Metadata & Digital Services Librarian selects, designs, adapts and
maintains appropriate metadata schema, controlled vocabularies and data
dictionaries to facilitate access to digital resources within the
libraries' digital collections and institutional repository. The
librarian tracks developments in metadata schema, chairs the library's
Metadata Working Group and participates in the library's research and
development efforts and in library, campus, regional and national
discussions regarding the description, organization, access and
retrieval of objects in digital library systems. The librarian
coordinates with and trains constituencies inside and outside the
libraries on the organization, description and accessibility of
information. The librarian provides outreach to faculty and academic
units, assisting them in the description and organization of information
they produce through the use of the libraries' digital content
management software and their locally developed systems.

This is a tenure-track faculty position and the Metadata & Digital
Services Librarian is a member of the University Libraries' faculty.
Library faculty serve on committees and task forces both at the library
and University level and take a leadership role in local, state and
national/international library and academic societies and organizations.
Librarians are expected to share expertise and results of research with
other information professionals via publication in refereed journals,
poster sessions and presentations at professional meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Typically requires PhD or terminal degree (Masters for some Extension
positions), demonstrated ability to teach in a classroom Extension, or
other setting, and develop a research program in the academic

Additional Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications Include:
- An M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited institution or a foreign equivalent
degree.
- Demonstrated familiarity with digital repository systems.
- Strong technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of at least two of the following metadata standards: Dublin
Core, MARC, MODS, METS.
- Knowledge of current cataloging rules and standards, Library of
Congress subject headings and classification.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately in a service and
production-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications Include:
- Successful management or supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of CONTENTdm and DSpace digital repository systems.
- Knowledge of XML, OAI-PMH and/or OAI/ORE.
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
