Hi folks,

Thanks Eric. Your encouragement to stretch ourselves and step outside our
familiar territory is really good advice! I spent a year of self education
going to public lectures at universities all around Boston (plenty of
schools) in a variety of disciplines from economics and public policy to
music and literature to physics and public health. It was undoubtedly one of
the most valuable things I've ever done, in so many ways. Not the least of
which has been my ability to more effectively interact with people from a
variety of disciplines and sectors, as well as bring a variety of
problem-solving perspectives to bear on challenges I encounter.

It was actually a lecture entitled "Before and after the Encyclopedie" that
started nudging me towards LIS as a transdisciplinary frame with which to
approach improving research support for decision-making and public policy
development.

Anyway, your sample list of other conferences led me to want to remind folks
of the International Calendar of Information Science Conferences (within our
discipline, yes, but pretty broad and diverse - intellectually and
geographically).
