I'm not sure I understand the ANU E-Press model. Does each title have a
persistent URL? Can I get MARC records as a single file ... rather than
cataloging them all individually with the print record from OCLC and
then editing to include the hyperlink? Since my university doesn't have
a big curriculum or research agenda in Australia, Pacific studies, or
Melanesia, it is unlikely we would select most of these titles in print.
Therefore, I doubt we will go to the expense of cataloging them, even
though the items themselves are free.

Colin Steele wrote about "Open Access to Books" on liblicense on 30 Jan
2008
and described the success with ANU E-Press.
I started immediatly to make these books available through our library
catalogue.
I used OCLC WorldCat records and to my surprise, not one was available
as
e-book in this gigantic catalogue.
So what Colin Steele wrote and what made me upset was true
"Peer reviewed ANU E-Press titles are freely available in html,
PDF, and mobile device formats. E-Press titles are discoverable
through Google Book Search and Google Scholar."
A commercial company can supply for everyone everywher something
that seems to be impossible for ten of thousand libraries!
We should be ashamed for our lack of interest!
