Hi all,
An aspect of the charge of the LC Working Group on the Future of
Bibliographic Control was to recommend ways the library community might
collectively move toward bibliographic control that more effectively
supports the management of and access to library resources.
Consequently, many of the report's recommendations are directed to
"all."
One happy result of the publication of the report has been spontaneous
announcements about work currently being done in libraries that address
one or more of its recommendations, but that might not be widely known
by others.
If you have recently completed a pilot project or implemented a new
initiative or workflow that relates directly to Working Group
recommendations 1, 3, or 4, please submit a concise description of your
work (1 page or less) to me for publication in the news column of
Cataloging & Classification Quarterly. Include some assessment (whether
positive or negative), a contact for additional information, and the
specific recommendation to which the work relates, such as "4.1.3.1 All:
Make use of holdings and circulation information to point users to items
that are most used and that may potentially be of most interest." The
resulting news columns will be structured by the applicable Working
Group recommendation to facilitate browsing. CCQ news columns are
freely available to subscribers and non-subscribers alike, are posted at
the time an issue goes to press, and are indexed. You can view past news
columns linked from their respective tables of contents at

l.
The LC Working Group report is available at

Of course, CCQ continues to welcome full length manuscripts on these or
related topics, as appropriate.
Cheers,
