Well, after the last post I had a chance to test out the privacy
provided by social networking sites.

In my original post on this thread I provided a link to my last.fm
profile, which someone from this list used to add me to their friends
list within last.fm. Her last.fm profile (petralove) provided no data
about who she was, where she was at, etc.

With a simple Google search of the username I found other profiles. One
at a vegetarian website (third Google hit) had her real name, Kelli
Keclik. A search of that name gives me her staff page at UW-Madison
Libraries. Within two minutes I was talking to her on instant messenger.

This is the practical reality. Luckily, Kelli is a good sport and wasn't
creeped out. And she has exceptional taste in music too boot.

Best,
Chris Barr
