Kathy,
So, in a sense (if I read your post correctly), what you have are
several different kinds of expressions (that could conceivably be
typed to be both specific enough for you and general enough for
others), as well as criteria for determining (subjectively, but
that's okay) when something is a new work.
For number 4, then, what you'd need is to be able to express "musical
model" relationships that may not be strictly hierarchical (in the
standard FRBR sense).
It really seems to me that all this could be expressed in ways that
others could either use the full granularity of these relationships,
if they wanted or needed to, or generalize it (in a standard way, of
course) for a non-specialist audience using some kind of "dumb-down"
mechanism (apologies to those who object to the term!).
