I have three NGC ("next generation" library catalog) essays to share
with the community.
The first is a "reverse" travel log detailing what happened at a
University Libraries of Notre Dame symposium called "Dr. Strangelove,
or How we learned to live with Google". Speakers included Mark
Dehmlow (University of Notre Dame), Pascal Calarco (University of
Notre Dame), Judi Briden (University of Rochester), Jody Combs
(Vanderbilt University), Kat Hagedorn (University of Michigan), Todd
Olsen (University of Chicago), and David Jenkins (University of
Notre). Topics included the results of Libraries-wide discussion,
eXtensible Catalog, Primo, OAIster, AquaBrowser, and Google Books. See:

I then had the opportunity to incorporate some of what I learned into
two presentations. One at the Charleston Conference called "XC and
the Future of Library Search" and the other for a Notre Dame/Ex
Libris "birthday party" called "'Next Generation' Library Catalogs in
15 Minutes". See:

Possible topics for discussion.
